PAPEREGENA is a litterbin in the form of a cylindrical trunk that culminates in a disk resembling a giant open mouth. This combination is raised off the ground by a 10 centimetre high cylinder uses a plinth to camouflage the interface with the pavement and lighten the presence of this street furniture in the environment. The cylindrical bin is in stainless steel protected with a primer and then red paint, while its large conical mouth is in polished stainless steel. The anchorage below pavement level is resolved with three metal studs welded to the base of the smaller cylinder.
The litter bags are camouflaged by a telescopic attachment system that allows the calibrated stainless steel ring to swing upwards.
PAPEREGENA is part of the MAGIC FLUTE collection, designed in 1995 by architects Andreu Arriola and Carme Fiol in conjunction with Escofet for reforms to Calle Santa Clara in Girona. The MAGIC FLUTE is a collection of street furniture inspired by the characters and music of Mozart's famous opera.
The urban elements in this series, the DAMA planter, the PAPAREGENA litter bin, the SARASTRO drinking fountain and the G-BANCO bench, have characteristic shapes that give them a harmonious relationship and create a visual melody in the urban landscape.
