Escofet Bilbao Planter

Design by: Josep Muxart

The BILBAO planter has a pyramid shape with a triangular base and gently arched sides. This reinforced cast stone item can be supplied in four different colours: white, grey, black and beige. The formal result is produced by a 16º torsion of the upper plane from the base, resulting in a volume with slightly warped sides. This planter's image changes with the viewer's position, entering a visual relationship with the observer. When these planters are rotated in their alignments, they create a sequence of apparently dissimilar elements.

The BILBAO planter and the BILBAO bench are reinforced cast stone elements in the BILBAO Series, designed for Escofet in 2008 by architect Josep Muxart.

The spirit of this series is based on the desire for an organic form with a soft appearance in contrast to the rigid nature of the material by means of a continuous composition of curved forms and warped planes. The end result is startling items with contained movement, almost at the limit of normal dimensions. The subtle design features diminish the impact of their unique presence by integrating them into their surroundings in a sensitive way.
