At the heart of the Orlam design is contravention of familiarity. Unlike classic furniture design, where wood is reserved for the seating or cladding, here it forms the vertical elements either as column, pole, support, post or bollard.
Orlam is a simple design using elementary geometric shapes. Upon closer inspection, creative flair in the detail becomes evident: rhythm, the interplay of light and shadow, the fluting at the base of the columns, the cut-outs in the metal forming the seats of the benches.
Placed in its natural and identifiable vertical position, the wood communicates solidity emphasising both its strength and its unique identity.
