Adamstown

Challenge

Citing Kensington high Street as inspiration, Adamstown was designed to be safe, shared, accessible, attractive and legible. However, the rail transport entrance to this key commuter area needed to correspond with this aesthetic vision.

Approach

The contemporary MOTIS shelters provided the perfect introduction to the new residential development and an indication of the contemporary, uncluttered urban landscape within the town.

Result

A customised modular shelter system that allowed the visual connection to the other parts of the town, yet did not require a purely bespoke structure to ensure budgetary prudence.

Adamstown

Adamstown is located 10 miles (16km) west of Dublin City Centre, on the edge of the existing built-up area of Lucan and forms a key commuter residential area for the city.

The design guide for Adamstown was incredibly detailed citing some of Woodhouse's other projects such as Kensignton High Street in its design principles such as de-cluttered and co-ordinated contemporary street furniture in a quality palette of materials. As such, Irish Rail contacted Woodhouse to help with the design of a Rail shelter that met the extensive design brief yet was cost effective when compared to bespoke shelters. The result was the perfectly suited and sized MOTIS shelters.
